How to use the app + Why use the app?

About the Walking For Rochester mobile app

The app has two main functions:

Report litter – Users can report locations where litter is present. This helps identify areas that need cleanup.

Log litter removal – Users can track and submit their cleanup activity. This is how litter removal is recorded and verified.

How to log  a Cleanup:

Map – The main screen of the app is the map. This is where you start if you are cleaning up litter.
Step 1 – Open the app and go to the map.
Step 2 – Press the start button.
Step 3 – Put your phone away and collect litter.
Step 4 – When finished, press the stop button.
Step 5 – Answer 1 brief question.
Step 6 – Take a clear photo of the litter you collected. (NOTE) The photo must show the litter inside the bag or bucket. Photos of the outside only are not accepted. Fill our the survey and submit! Report litter everyday, every time you see it!

Step 7 – Hit Submit You are done)

If you are in a group, you should all be using the app. The 2 things that we need the most is the exact path volunteers take as they pick up litter. That paired with time and date help us understand litter behavoir. The second most important thing is to take a clear picture of all litter collected on that trip.

Tips: It is recommended to do 1 log every 45 minutes. If you plan to pick up litter longer than that, then please set a timer and restart every 45 minutes.

How to Reporting Litter: Click the “Report Litter” tab in the menu of the app, and fill in the form.
